Further information about how we provide connected TV and set top box advertising services

We process personal data to deliver personalised advertisements to you via your connected TV or set-top box. This helps make your viewing experience better tailored to you. You may see these advertisements as you use your TV, such as during commercial breaks on broadcast TV, when you open connected TV apps and on the TV home screen or programme guide.

To do this, we collect personal data from you via a software package installed on your connected TV or set-top box. The data collected includes your IP address, a unique device identifier generated and used only by us (a “Hoppr ID”), device data (such as model and operating system), and information about how you use your TV and interact with specific TV content (such as selected channels, apps and viewing time).

In other cases, we receive personal data from your TV manufacturer or TV operator directly or via their partners. This includes your IP address, device information (such as device ID, model and operating system), and information about the consent choices you have made regarding the use of your personal data.

We analyse this personal data to group you into audience “segments” with other users that have similar interests to you (for example, that enjoy watching the same types of TV shows). We, as well as advertisers and agencies and/or TV operators (depending on who is managing the advertising) can then use information about audience segments for advertisement bidding and delivery purposes. This means that advertisers and their agencies can make informed decisions about which advertisements are shown to people in different audience segments, including yours.

This allows you to see useful, interactive and interest-based advertisements about products and services offered by advertisers and agencies on your TV, in order to enhance your viewing experience. Note that your privacy choices with Hoppr may not impact whether or not you see other types of advertisements or marketing material based on information other than your TV viewing history or usage (such as, for example, generalised location data). As these other forms of advertising and marketing are not interest-based, they may be less relevant to you.

3. Who we share personal data with

We share your personal data:

  • with our group companies and joint ventures (such as CTVision Hoppr Advertising Ltd), for the purpose of better providing and supporting our services.

  • with our service providers, such as for IT purposes and analytics. These service providers are required to maintain personal data securely and handle it in accordance with our instructions and as is necessary to provide their services to us;

  • with our trusted partners in the advertising ecosystem, such as advertisers and advertising platforms, in order to provide our services;

  • if we or substantially all of our assets are merged or acquired by a third party and personal data forms part of the transferred or merged assets; and

  • in order to comply with our legal, regulatory, financial and professional obligations; to enforce or apply our contractual terms; to protect our rights, property and safety and those of others; and where else necessary.

4. How we store, retain and transfer personal data

We maintain organisational, technical and physical safeguards to help protect your personal data.

How long we keep personal data for depends on the purposes for which we use it, applicable legal and regulatory requirements, our legitimate interests and other factors. We typically retain usage data for a two (2) year period.

We operate in multiple jurisdictions, including in countries with different data protection laws. We implement appropriate measures to ensure that when we transfer personal data internationally, the personal data is adequately protected in accordance with the applicable data protection laws.

5.  Cookies
We use cookies and similar technologies to operate our website and understand how it is used. Some of these cookies are essential for our website to work properly. Website visitors can also delete and block all cookies from any website via their browser settings (although doing so will likely impact our website functionality).

 6.       Rights and complaints
You may have various rights in relation to your personal data, subject to applicable law (such as the GDPR and UK GDPR where applicable).

Depending on applicable law, this may include the right to:

  • obtain a copy of the personal data we hold about you and information about how we process it;

  • have inaccuracies or omissions corrected in the personal data we hold about you;

  • have us delete or otherwise remove personal data we hold about you if certain circumstances apply, such as if the personal data is no longer required for our purposes, or we no longer have a legal basis to process it;

  • restrict further processing of the personal data we hold about you if certain circumstances apply, such as if the accuracy of the personal data is contested;

  • object to the processing of the personal data we hold about you on the basis of our legitimate interests;

  • receive the personal data we hold about you in a digital format or have it transmitted directly to another controller (where technically feasible) if certain circumstances apply, such as if the processing is based on your consent; and
